Resume Writer Deluxe from IMSI is basic resume writing software. This product is nearly the same as our #5 pick, Resume Workshop Pro, but lacks several perks like job search engine access and the ability to publish your resume as a webpage.
Resume Workshop Pro has 10,000 resume examples and 3,000 descriptive phrases, so finding the right format and the perfect words isn't hard. And the resume software can help you find the contact information for more than 11,000 large companies.
A few features that Resume Workshop Pro is missing include an interview simulator, the ability to import previous resumes, cover letter examples and a thesaurus.
Ease of Use/Installation:
Resume Writer Deluxe wasn't as easy to use as we anticipated. The opening screen has three steps (see screenshot 1) and the wizard walks you through these to complete your resume, but we felt the screens were cluttered.
Edit/Organization Tools:
Resume Workshop Professional includes a good variety of editing and formatting tools, but we couldn't find examples of cover letters anywhere in the program. If you don't know how to create your own cover letter from scratch, cover letter examples are quite helpful. Also, Resume Workshop Pro has no thesaurus.
Customer Service:
IMSI did not respond the first time we contacted them. When we purchased their software, we did not receive it for a month. We emailed IMSI one more time to find out about the shipping delay, but never received a response.
