Sarmsoft’s Resume Builder is the most stripped down program we reviewed. Literally, the program gives you what it advertises: a resume builder. You aren’t even given the option to create a cover letter let alone enjoy perks like cover letter templates or anything else of that nature.

As previously stated, the features in this program are nonexistent. You can create a resume, look at your resume, and move things around within your resume, but not much else. Typical word processors offer the ability to select text and drag it to other sections in the document. Here you have to copy the text, click the button on the left hand side for which section you want, and paste it into the box that pops up.

The entire process of editing your resume is very convoluted. This program doesn’t have a spell-check or thesaurus, which creates an assortment of potential mistakes the user could make and not know it. It’s almost as if they tried to create their own word processor. The results aren’t as ideal as we would have liked. Computer savvy people usually want the ability to micromanage every detail of what they’re creating, no matter how minute or major.

For those people, they will have to look elsewhere to satisfy their resume creation needs. For the people who can create something and not have to go back and repeatedly look at it, they will be able to get the job done with Resume Builder. A lack of editing tools creates no room for error, so you need to make sure everything is right in a separate program before you input it into the wizard.

SarmSoft only offers an email address for technical support problems, which is a mixed blessing. Any popular product is going to have a lot of people who are having problems with it. An email address works, but when it becomes overloaded, certain customers risk having their objects become forgotten. Having several options spreads the messages out and ensures each one will be given an equal amount of time.
